Resources for ELLs

Reyes Chart: Adding Visuals in the classroom will help create interest for ELLs. My ELLs thrive when they can see what is being discussed instead of just hearing it.
Website
Here is a poster with large punctuation. It also has the names and a brief description of each one. This is helpful for ELLs because they can refer to it when writing.
In Science, we are currently learning about weather. I have noticed my site teacher doesn't have any visuals of weather. Here is a good set of posters with visuals of weather and descriptions of them that are especially helpful for ELLs.

Process Praise

This is an excellent video to learn how to praise the process instead of the product. The students set goals before writing and the teacher walks around and praises those small goals that the child set and met. ELLs can set whatever goals they want and will receive praise for meeting that goal.

Word Cloud

I really like the idea of incorporating word clouds into reading lessons. It allows students to verbalize words they find interesting. It also allows students to see the words as a form of art. This is helpful for ELLs because they can see the words outside of text and make a fun, interesting collage.

Assessment with colored cards

When teaching students, it is helpful to get immediate feedback. This video explains a technique in which each student gets a green, yellow, and red card to hold up when asked if everyone understands. This is helpful for teachers because they can clearly look for reds to go over something differently or add more interesting activities. It is a way for ELLs to have a voice through colors.
