Classroom Strategies (especially for ELLs)
Team tables are an excellent way for students to communicate and do classwork as a group. This will strengthen their ability to work well with others to complete tasks. This is especially helpful for SLA as ELLs are able to thoughtfully add to discussions in a small group.

Individual book boxes are great for read-to-self (aka silent reading). The teacher in my site class allows 30 minutes each day for read-to-self and students get to choose five books for their book boxes every Friday. Students love having multiple books and it really helps ELLs as they have a variety of books to choose from when reading. Students can pick whichever books they want. This makes reading fun and stress free.
