Language is used to communicate one’s thoughts and ideas. It is a way to express oneself and allow others to understand. It is a portal to our thoughts, a way to free our own minds by sharing our ideas with others. Lets be clear that language is made-up. No matter what language you speak, someone at some point connected their voice with their ideas. In order to understand each other, we use the same language if we are in the same area. Thus, language changes with most nations. We can understand a culture better by hearing the language, dialect, etc. For example, In the older Native language of Lakota, there is no translation for, “This is my land,” as they believed that land could not be owned. They were able to express that idea with others, thus relating to each other through language. Language truly gives us the ability to strengthen our relationships and commonalities with others.
